In preparation for this evening's PSA meeting, a brief summary of burglary and robbery statistics in Mount Pleasant. What's striking is how "noisy" the data are, the counts changing drastically from month to month. It should be clear that the common MPD procedure of simply comparing this-month/this-year to this-month/last-year, and attempting to deduce whether crime is "increasing" or "decreasing", cannot be meaningful.
It does appear that, by inspection of eight years of data, that one can conclude that robberies are decreasing. That can't be said about burglaries, though. The most recent burglary wave here, peaking with 15 burglaries reported in October, appears to be over. Six burglaries have been reported in December to date (two of businesses, four of residences), which is about "normal", the eight-year average here being five per month.
