Dear Mt Pleasant Library Patrons,

The Mt. Pleasant Library renovation and expansion project moves forward. After more than two years of community involvement, design has been finalized and the building permit has been issued. We look forward to beginning construction very soon.

We have taken note of and responded to all questions and concerns regarding the Mt Pleasant Library project. We greatly appreciate the active involvement from residents of Mt. Pleasant and throughout Ward One; the design has been improved by the community engagement. The new library will be equipped with multiple spaces for library programs and community meetings, expanded areas for children, teens and adults, and space for to up to 80,000 books. We expect the library to re-open in fall 2011. We look forward to joining the community in celebrating the newly renovated Mt. Pleasant Library.

Would it be possible to move the construction trailer from the heavily used Lamont Street, around the corner to the very lightly used side street that joins 16th? The church is vacant, and there is little traffic on that street. The current location of the trailer results in a very narrow roadway on this 2-way street.

Does anyone know when the new mount pleasant library is scheduled to re-open?

The ANC is planning to meet on the 13th to discuss the library's proposed variance for the rear yard. Would someone from the library team be able to join that discussion? Clearly, some commissioners have already made up their minds about this but it would be good to have someone from your staff's input to make this a more balanced discussion. It also might be good to hear from someone from the fire department to discuss the safety concerns, which seem to be the crux of the complaint anyway.
