The South African Washington Internship Program is seeking volunteer home stay families to host South African students from June 10 to July 17, 2011 as part of their program in Washington D.C.

SAWIP is a non-profit tackling the challenge of achieving deep transformation in South Africa by inspiring, developing and supporting a diverse new generation of young leaders (ages 19-25) who are committed to serving others with humility and integrity. Through a varied program of internships, service activities and hands-on leadership opportunities, these emerging leaders, establish a trust based on shared experience that transcends racial, socio-economic and religious boundaries. Host families are a key component to the program and recalled by students as the most beneficial facet of the program, above their internship or the leadership curriculum they take while here.

As a volunteer host family (a tax deduction is available, but we cannot offer any remuneration), we ask that:
- A Bed/bedroom is available to the student
- Access to public transportation (the students are not permitted to drive),
- Offer a safe and welcoming environment
- Treat the student as a member of your family, including chores and house rules
- Engage in events throughout the summer program and socialize with other SAWIP students and their host families
- Receive 24 support from SAWIP staff throughout the student’s stay
