From the National Weather Service:

...record high temperature set at Washington National DC...

A record high temperature of 99 degrees was set at Washington National DC today. This breaks the old record of 94 set in 1970.

The 99 degree high temperature today marks the latest time in a calendar year that Washington DC has reached 99 degrees or higher. The previous latest occurrence of 99 degrees or higher was September 8th in 1939...when it reach 100 degrees.

The 99 degree high temperature today is also the warmest temperature On record for Washington DC during astronomical fall (September 22/23-December 21). The previous warmest fall high temperature was 98F on September 23 1895.
