The Klingle Valley Trail is progressing. The draft Environmental Assessment is now on-line. That's a lot of stuff to download, so I've extracted an excerpt of the Executive Summary, for posting here. (Even the full Summary is too large to post here, exceeding the 3 MB limit.)

One element of special concern to us is access from the east. Three options are proposed, one of which is just building an entrance where the road is currently blocked by a fence, while the other two provide bike/hike connection to the existing bike path. I'm concerned that there's no safe, comfortable access from Mount Pleasant. There's our chunk of Klingle Road, to be sure, but it's an extremely bicycle-hostile bit of road, characterized by drivers using the four-lane stretch to go really, really fast, racing to the Beach Drive turn, or across to Porter Street. I'm going to press for a better bicycle connection.

Only two downloads? Not so long ago, anything about Klingle Road would precipitate mayhem. Not that I'm complaining; peace and quiet is okay by me.

Here's a City Paper report on that Klingle Trail meeting. "Klingle Krazies" tells you what this report is about.

The Klingle Valley Trail Final Environmental Assessment is now available for public review from January 13, 2011 to February 15, 2011.

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), the Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) regulations (40 CFR 1500-1508), and the FHWA's Environmental Impact and Related Procedures (23 CFR 771); the FHWA and DDOT prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) which was released for agency and public review on June 4, 2010. A public hearing was held on June 23, 2010. Subsequently, the Final EA has been prepared to address agency and public comments received, and identify FHWA/DDOT's Preferred Alternative and options after the consideration of public and agency comments.
