In a letter of March 21, 2008:
As a stakeholder in the revitalization of Mount Pleasant's commercial district, the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD)'s DC Main Streets Program (DCMS) is writing to inform you that DSLBD terminated the former Mount Pleasant Main Street, Inc. (MPMS)'s DCMS grant effective December 17, 2007 and designation as a DC Main Streets and National Main Street program due to MPMS's inability to fulfill the terms of its grant over the last two years.
While the Mt. Pleasant commercial district is no longer a designated DC Main Streets commercial district, as a DC neighborhood business owner, you can still access public resources to help you successfully operate your business and improve the commercial corridor. DSLBD remains committed to the growth and development of Mount Pleasant businesses and the commercial corridor.
Sincerely,
Phyllis R. Love
Assistant Director, DSLBD |

But Mount Pleasant Main Street will continue in operation, independent of the DC Main Streets Program.

I have three questions:
1. What were the "terms" of the grant that MtP Mainstreet was unable to fulfill?
2. Was the grant received partially? How was it used? What was the size of this grant?
2. I guess that the DC Main Street designation meant something. If it did, by losing this designation, what is it that has been lost for MtP? |

Still good questions for Main Street, I think. -- Jack |

| Since a lot of the Main Street folks don't participate on this board, along with the large majority of the neighborhood, maybe it'd be worth sending a letter and having a formal response to the questions that could be posted here. They're all volunteers with full-time day jobs who can barely keep up with MPMS stuff. But I'm sure any of the board members would be glad to answer. |

It wouldn't take much time to check in on occasion and, while perhaps ignoring the debates going on elsewhere, post Main Street actions and notices, and reply to specific questions, here in the Main Street Forum. Adam Hoey did indeed make an appearance here recently, and perhaps he would now reply to the question posted above (two years ago).
I've suggested that Historic Mount Pleasant also participate, on that basis -- deal with issues in their specific portion of the Forum, with no obligation to get involved in any of the more general areas.
I don't know of a better tool for dialog with this segment of the Mount Pleasant population. More and more people are becoming adept at the Internet. Main Street and Historic Mount Pleasant both maintain Web sites, but those don't provide for actual dialog with residents.
