So, sometime between 7:00 pm last night and 8:30 am this morning, someone crushed our car, which was legally parked at the corner of 19th and Park. While they left pieces of their own car at the scene, they of course did not leave a note (hardly surprising these days - what's wrong with people?)

If anyone happened to see this sad event, please post a reply here or private message me at your convenience.

Thank you,
Jeff

This has happened on our corner of Newton St. twice in recent years. Our car was one of the ones hit the last time. Fortunately, D.C. requires uninsured motorist coverage, which should cover your incident, has a low deductible and can't, by law, have an impact on your rates. It isn't likely the police will catch the driver, even if someone coughs up a description of the car. And, even if the person is caught they probably don't have insurance or money that the insurance company can access. At least that was the case in the first incident on our block (A neighbor chased the car in the first instance and helped the police catch the guy. His car was hampered by parts dragging on the road. Nice that he was arrested but he didn't have insurance, money and didn't even own the car). Sorry for the glum outlook but city living is what it is on certain topics.

As an aside, this happened to me in PG County and the police not only wouldn't come to the scene, they didn't want the purse that was spread all over my car including wallet and ID. When I complained to the Lieutenant he suggested I hire a private investigator if I wanted the case followed up on. True quote! Wrote my congressman about that one. I ended up driving the purse to the police station myself because I didn't want it in my possession.

Do not expect the police to investigate this crime. It's a sad indictment of the police, but I don't know anyone who was successful with this.
