McDonald's has expressed interest in moving into the Mt Pleasant Supermarket space. Bank of America is also interested in moving into that space as well which would free up the Bank of America space on the east side of the street.

What does "expressed interest" mean?

I saw this same story about Starbucks moving into Irving and MtP that apparently had no basis in reality.

I am also aware that John Andrade who has a bar called Meridian Pint wanted to put in an independent beer/wine store in that location:

So, pretty much "expressed interest" and $2 will get you a cup of coffee in this town, what's the truth?

Also, Bank of America could very well open up a second branch on the other side of the street and not vacate the other property. This is a commonly-used CVS and Starbucks technique- they put locations where they think competitors might go. I suspect if BOA got an inkling another bank might move in, they'd keep both locations. In Bethesda in the early 1980s the Arlington RD A+P closed and Giant opened a second location across the street- that's right, two Giants directly across from each other.

That spot was a Church's Chicken before the Mt. Pleasant riot. It was burnt down. Then I think it was a shoe store. I hope it doesn't become a fast food franchise again, but I would like to see that parking lot open. That block is a mess with all the double parking.

smithdo: why don't you contact Main Street or the Bank. Maybe they can give you a better update then maybe you can update us all.

Such a dilemma. Because Bank of America's $3 ATM fees doesn't leave much leftover money for fries and shakes.

This would be such good news! A McDonalds would contribute SO much to the community, we would never have to worry about it selling or serving alcohol, and it wouuld never even THINK about providing entertainment of any kind, live or otherwise! This would be such a feather in our cap, our community leaders should be proud they've created an atmosphere on Mt. Pleasant St. that attracts the attention of such high-quality businesses! What Mt. Pleasasnt needs, no, what Mt. Pleasant DESERVES, is more least-common-denominator businesses like McDonalds that have no character, no soul, and that nobody will ever protest, argue about, or make a fuss over!

This thread seems like it would be worthy of being cross-posted to the Hot Topics section to give it more attention.

Could that be done?

Maybe not having a McDonalds on Mt. Pleasant Street is something everyone could agree on.

Or not.

Yeah, I doubt it. This thread is probably very elitist, or anti-fast-foodist, or something.

Nevertheless, PLEASE let there be no McDonald's in Mount Pleasant.

I keep hearing about some "prohibition" of chain businesses in Mt. Pleasant. Does this in fact exist? How is it enforced?
