|
|
According to the financial statement handed out at the MPNA annual meeting last month, MPNA receives a lot of funding from Mt. Pleasant residents in the form of dues. I don't think it is unreasonable for MPNA, in exchange for soliciting and receiving such dues, to provide:
a) a copy of the by-laws
b) a list of the officers
and, as by-laws customarily provide---hold an annual election to elect officers (usually held at the same time as the annual meeting---this is what Historic Mt. Pleasant did).
Unless there is organizational transparency---then MPNA appears to be a collection of individuals, operating without any organizational framework, who solicit money from the community in order to support projects which the few individuals deem worthwhile----with no mechanism for those giving such funds to have any sort of organizational voice regarding the activities of the organization---either by voting directly on issues or indirectly by voting on officers of MPNA.
Is that the case? If so, then people (including myself) may well decide to continue to give money to the individuals who are willing to do the work to organize neighborhood projects---since those giving money may agree that the projects are worthwhile but not have the time or energy to work on them personally---but I'd like to know the structure up front.
So my question is this: Does the check I wrote to MPNA for "dues" at the annual meeting several weeks ago entitle me to any sort of voice in the organization in the form of voting on officers or a board?
Laurie?
p.s. The above is not meant to be any sort of attack---as I commented elsewhere, MPNA's annual meeting and other community activities are commendable. I'm just making an observation about what implications start to be drawn from a failure to provide organizational documents or hold elections. |

you may want to look at MPNA's web site for information...

I'm not a member, but I've seen the board list on the site before. And it seems the web site has recently updated. Probably because they just had their annual meeting. |
