So I've just moved to Mt. Pleasant, living between 18th and 19th on Park Road NW in one of two basement apartments in the house. I've been searching for Web service and have been looking around the forums and have found suggestions for Verizon, Speakeasy, Covad, Comcast, etc.

My problem is that everytime I search for service ... most sites are saying "no dice! no service in your area at this time!" which boggles my mind considering ya'll have Web access. The only service I CAN find, is RCN's dial-up ... but I don't have a landline, and really don't want to get one ... and we all know dial-up is like having teeth pulled.

Anyone have a clue what the problem is? Or anyone have Web they'd like to share? I can pick up two small connections ... but both are password-protected. Living without Internet is pretty much killing me.

I recognize the name from LJ. I use speakeasy, but have a DSL line - which requires the landline first. There is lots of discussion of Comcast on here as a cable provider. May help if you posted the names of the two wireless networks that you can see.

Hah, yup ... I'm all over the Web.

When I get back home (I'm currently at a place with free Wi-Fi of course) I'll post them ... though even though I recognize them, their connections are sort of weak.

Thing about Comcast is ... I still have my Comcast modem from when I had them at my old place ... but because I've recently had service, it'll cost more than I'd like to pay for service :\

Edit: I can't post them when I get home ... I'm a numbskull. I'll post them t'morrow then.

All right ... it would appear I get an almost perfect signal from a user with the name "fellowship2", but it is password protected.

Anyone recognize the user?

I'd consider posting a flyer near your house with an email address. You can imagine that it is someone within a few houses of you.

I have Verizon DSL. I had to sign up for a landline because they don't yet do naked internet. (Though they may now, I don't know) I purchased the cheapest possible phone package at $8 per month plus the cost of DSL.

It does the trick. I wasn't willing to pay extra for cable internet.
