Any idea what is up with the renovation of the Lee Irving Liquors building. It looks like the upstairs renovations have made significant progress and there is now some construction on the ground floor - including what looks like windows to replace the metal siding.
It looks promising. |

Hope not. I think MtP leads DC in liquor stores per capita. _________________ GWF |

Really? There may be a lot of stores that sell wine and beer (class B), but how many liquor stores do we have (class A)?
Lee-Irving.
Sportsmans.
Others? |

Those are indeed the only Class A retailer licenses in Mount Pleasant.
There are seven (according to my records) "small markets" with Class B licenses. If this is perceived as "too many" -- well, I don't see why the number of shops selling alcoholic beverages matters, except as possibly the *symptom* of a problem. I'm sure these shops would be happy to see the number of liquor-selling establishments here decreased, so that the survivors would enjoy more business, with less competition.

Lee-Irving also has good prices and the proprietor is a decent guy. We got all our liquor for our wedding reception from him and he gave us a really good deal.
I think drinking is still within the bounds of the law, no?
I'm surprised that this topic hasn't spurred speculation about a certain multi-national corporation that will remain nameless |

I checked the certain multi-national corporation that will remain nameless' website and there are no announced plans to open a gentrification magnet at that location.
NOBODY PANIC. |

Gentrification magnet?
Darling, you missed the boat. Mt Pleasant is already gentrified. |

It's actually a magnet for quality residents with low-quality taste in coffee.
But you're right, Mt. Pleasant was BUILT gentrified. |

I wonder when Mount Pleasant will get a Whole Foods, because the one in Columbia Heights is going to be too far away. |

I hope Northeast Mt. Pleasant gets one. Going all the way to South-South-East Mt. Pleasant to the planned Whole Foods is kind of far. Maybe they can put one where Brown Street Market is now. That would be convenient for me. |

If they don't put a Whole Foods where the Argyle Market is now -- as well as the one on Brown Street and the one at the south end of the street -- I'm going to launch a petition drive. |

I agree. That guy is great with his customers and all around pleasant to talk to. He has made some great recommendations for us too. |
