Hello.
I'm new to the area and my vehicle will arrive soon from California. Any tips on securing my vehicle from theft? Besides having an active alarm, is there anything that deters potential theft? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes -- get a Club, and use it. The car thieves know how to beat those, but it's easier for them to go to another car that doesn't have one.

Car break-ins are also a serious problem here. You must never leave things in sight that are at all valuable. These guys will pop a window and do a snatch-and-run, even for small stuff. The car alarm won't prevent that, because the thieves know that they can be gone before anyone responds. Car alarms go off so frequently (the rumbling of passing trucks sets some of them off) that people pay little attention to them.

An alarm probably won't help, in all truthfulness. Most people tend to ignore them. They're just background noise at this point.

You can do a few things though- the easiest is to just make your vehicle unattractive to theft. Use a steering wheel lock, take the faceplate off your radio, don't keep valuables in sight. There truthfully aren't all that many stolen autos in Mt. Pleasant, but theft from auto is far more common. So don't present anything to be stolen.

Beyond that, if you're really worried, LoJack is probably the best way to recover a stolen car.
