What's the deal with the supercan/cans that were set on fire last night in the 1700 Kilbourne Pl block alleyway? Has anyone heard anything from the DC police/fire dept.? I know there was a still a police officer parked in the alleyway this morning. One was our next door neighbors trash.

In addition to the alley supercan fires, the discarded floorboards that have been left in front of the house on 18th just south of Lamont were also set on fire.

Sometime this morning, during 6-6:30 am, a police officer saw smoke and responded--saw the trash cans on fire and summoned the fire dept. Two other trash cans were also on fire and they were put out. The police suspect arson (since one of the trash cans was next to the garage and a corner of the garage was burned).
Police will be patrolling the area.

With this rush of fires, we should have a push on to clear refuse out of the alleys. I've noticed 4-5 mattresses stacked in the alley behind the apartment building at 1823 Newton Street -- anything that can be done abut getting those removed?
