| What the Hell are you guys doing about the recent spate of muggings in Mt. Pleasant and nearby Adams Morgan. Several neighbors appear to have been victims of robberies/assaults in the middle of the day or early evening. I have never seen cops walk the streets of our neighborhood and those in cruisers certainly don't provide us with enough preventative protection to stop these attacks. If you don't have the resources, let us know so we can apply pressure to our electeds. Is it the policing strategy? Is it a lack of awareness by neighbors? |

I missed the meeting last night due to work obligations. Could someone sum up the highlights?
Thanks |

Here's my brief take:
1) there's not many cops in our patrol area. only 1 detective for all robberies in Mt. Pleasant. (our detective didn't show up last night. one from another area did.)
2) in order to get more cops in our neighborhood call the police frequently (ie. anytime you see something suspicious). supposedly the police department decides its staffing by amount of calls in an area.
3) the only way the bastards who robbed you will be caught is if you take in as much detail as you about the perp while they've got a gun in your face.
4) the only way to make the neighborhood safer is for the community to get involved and partner with the police. i signed up for Orange Hats, I suggest you do the same if you are truly "concerned". there were only about a dozen residents who attended last night, according to some it was the largest attendance in 6 months. MORE PEOPLE NEED TO GET INVOLVED.
5) I viewed last night's meeting as a meet and greet, given that it appeared we've got a new batch of cops, new ANCs, and a few newly interested residents, such as myself. I'm hoping the next meeting will address matters such as a listing of hot spots in our neighborhood, case closure, and why it takes our detective more than 2 weeks to follow up on an armed robbery incident.
6) The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. (I would double-check that date if you want to attend.) |
