Recently my bicycle was stolen, and frankly i'd like to file the report for a variety of reasons, i have my serial number and my registration number, i'd love to give it to SOMEONE in the police dept, but each time i call 311 or 727-1010 i get very pleasant people who say - in the case of last night that the police would come by or in the case of today they would call so i could place the report. but it never happens. last night my poor dog had to sit next to the door, legs crossed because i was terrified to leave the house to take him for a walk, should they come by while i was away, today i was scared to leave the house, knowing the second i did, the call would come.
I've had no one come by, no one call, no messages nothing.
when i call back to say "hi, i can't wait any longer i need to leave" there is no record of my having called in the first place.
why must this be so difficult?
reporting the stolen bike has become more traumatic then actually having it stolen!
just incase i never get through TO ANYONE:
it was painted red with black spatters
giant rincon
serial: G21M2636
Registration No: 0837 with The Evergreen State College, OLYMPIA WA (there's a white and green sticker on it with this info)
ANY explination would be great.
Thanks,
Caroline/Puck |

Hello! I am Officer Mattingly with the Metropolitan Police Department as well as a fellow neighbor! A couple of suggestions on making a report: Either go directly into the Fourth District Police Station, 6001 Georgia Avenue, NW, Call 727-1010 Or 311 and the Telephone Reporting Unit Representative will take the report over the telephone Or will dispatch a Unit to your home.
If all else fails, feel free to email me directly and I will contact an Official of the 4th District on your behalf.
I hope this helps.
Thanks - Ofc. Mattingly |

| Does calling 311 automatically generate a report? Just two days before Christmas my girlfriend's car was broken into on Irving Street and the crook stole a bunch of gifts. The woman on the phone said that several people had already called in with similar complaints and a met a man who was an eyewitness. Still I scoured several sites for a police report and have come up goose eggs. Am I perhaps not looking in the right places or is it possible that incidents aren't getting reported to keep the numbers low? |

The following is the statement that I emailed to Dominic:
All crimes that are defined in DC Code and that are reported to the POLICE - MUST have a report taken and complaint numbers issued. I would suggest that you contact the 4th District's Desk Sergeant and request that someone research the call and ascertain the numbers issued.
Other than that, give me the date, time, and location and I will personally search the report myself and get back with you.
