I was assaulted at knife point by two latino guys the night of October 27th at the corner of 16th and Newton St. I called 911 to report the incident and I was referred to call 311. I called and to my surprised the woman that took my information was not helpful at all and extremely rude!
Two days later I spoke to some officers that were parked outside the metro station on Columbia Heights and complained to them about the assault and my call to the 311 number from which I was extremely disappointed. Specially when the woman asked me if I had been physically hurt and my response to her was that these two guys had only taken my money. Her nasty response to me was ¡§So what¡¦s the problem sir¡¨ that¡¦s unacceptable.
Apparently these two guys have been seen again at the corner of 16th and Newton St. and we will like to see more police patrolling around the area. Your help will be greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, |

Oscar, I would be furious too if that were to have happened to me. Fortunately, so far so good for me as I've lived in the neighborhood for 6 incident-free months. My suggestion would be that you write a letter to the Mayor's office. This should be a public service and they should at the very least provide you with a feeling that the City cares about the safety of its citizens.
We pay about twice the taxes of those in out surrounding jurisdictions and we should expect services that at least equal those around us. This story makes me ill, and although it shouldn't, it still shocks me. Write to the Mayor and I promise to do the same if something like this happens to me.
The only way we're going to change this place for the better is by remaining on top of those who represent us and providing them with constant feedback as to conditions in our city. |
