I saw a copy of an email from MPD announcing the following:
"Lt Ewell is gone effective Sunday and Lt Sledge will be assigned to 301 , Lt Robinson and Lt Lankford will be assigned to PSA 302"

When will Lt. Sledge take up his duties here in MtP?

Inspector Diane Groomes, at the All-Ways MtP meeting Saturday 9 July,
announced that the first meeting with the public of the new Lt for PSA, David Sledge, will be this coming Tuesday, 12 July 2005.

That meeting will be the regular monthly meeting of PSA301, held in the MtP library main meeting room, ground floor.

Inspector Groomes also announced the resignation of Sgt. Gauck, who is moving with his family.

Sgt Gauck was on the list of our best police officers found in a 360 degree survey I conducted several months ago. He will be sorely missed.

Great. Whats the over/under on the ANC pissing on this Lts. shoes?

Maybe he won't have any ideas and can safely sit in his office, out of the range of the ANC's crapflinging.

I hate to see LT Ewell leave so soon. It's a shame and I hope that the abuse that the ANC dealt wasn't the cause. But, I suspect it's not that (though they've given most of us cause to want to leave the neighborhood) - LT Ewell has always had a good perspective - knowing it's the community that he served not the politics.

The first time I met LT Ewell was at the corner of Kilbourne & 17th back in October. I was walking my dog and he came along in his police cruiser, introducing himself as the new LT and encouraging me to come to the PSA meetings. Of course, he had no idea I was one of the few regulars at the meetings and his quick introduction turned into 2 hours of conversation on the corner about how to improve the community's involvement in public safety issues.

That was just one of the many interactions I've had with LT Ewell. I hope the new LT continues on focusing on constructive measures for the entire community and continues to reach out to the average neighbor walking down the street, whether or not they're walking a dog...

At Mt. Pleasant's National Night Out event at Lamont Park, you can have a chance to say your goodbyes to Lt. Ewell. I second all of Julie's comments about Lt. Ewell. In the short time that he has been in Mt. Pleasant, he has accomplished quite a lot and he was nothing short of being extremely conscientious. He took a new job, a promotion, to handle police security for the public school system. Anyhow, he will be at the National Night Out, performing with his blues band, Danny Blew and the Blues Crew. So if you would like to say any last goodbyes or thank you's that will be the last opportunity for him here in Mt. Pleasant. Officially he is actually already starting his new job, although he has still been instrumental in assisting with the transition to a new lieutenant for our PSA. Also, the new PSA Lt., will be at NNO, and it is a good opportunity to meet him.
