I understand that the murder that occurred on the 1600 block of Monroe happened at around midnight and the victim lived in one of the buildings on 16th street. Is that correct? Was it a drive-by shooting? Drug-related? Mugging? This whole thing seems like it has dropped off everyone's scope. This is not a normal event and my neighbors and I are anxious for more information.

There was a homicide a little after midnight on Friday the 9th (the actual date of the event is Sat 11/10). It happened in front of 1644 Monroe St. A man was shot once in the head and died shortly thereafter. For reasons relating to the ongoing investigation I am not able to tell you much more. I can tell you that robbery is a POSSIBLE motive and that we do have suspect(s). The man did live nearby.

Sorry to be so vague but we can't release a lot more at this time. If robbery was the motive, then everyone does need to be more alert than usual when travelling late at night. Please call us anytime you see someone in your neighborhood who you do not recognize or who looks out of place or suspicious.
