I question why the assessment is so low. Why is a 4 story apartment building only assessed at $100K. Whether or not it's a sf home or office, that's not consistent with how the rest of us are assessed.

Current Value (2011) Proposed New Value (2012)
Land: $492,750 $492,750
Improvements: $92,880 $100,470
Total Value: $585,630 $593,220
Taxable Assessment: * $585,630 $593,220

I live literally next to 1647; in fact, I can see their windows and any activity--whenever there is any--from my own windows.

The most recent developments include having a crew of workers pointing and tucking the building during the weekends, including sundays, which by law they need a permit for. I reported to DCRA and they replied to me that
" Inspector Robert Cluff from the Illegal Construction Unit (ICU) visited the property on three occasions, with the most recent being on November 10, 2011. On every inspection (from the public-right-away) the inspector neither seen nor heard any construction work taking place. The building appeared (from the outside) to be empty. Consequently, inspector Cluff determined there was no illegal construction activity and there were no violations of relevant District of Columbia building codes."

At the time of my request, on the western side of the building facing my windows (second floor), there was a crew of approximately 4-5 men working on pointing and tucking the building's brick on make-shift scaffolding or simply hanging from a rope which went on for several weekends. I did warn them that I would contact the DC office if they did not stop. They were working as late as 3 weekends ago, although on they had moved to the first level of the building and it was considerably less annoying.

And, prior to that, there was construction carried out for several months on the roof, which was covered with a tarp and secured by bricks--and which gave a lot of concern to the residents in my building since it appeared to be a less than safe means of working on the roof. On Saturdays and Sundays (but not during the week) there would be a crew of men removing roofing materials in baskets suspended by a rope from the roof--rather than through a covered chute which reduces the risk of falling debris--and dumping them into a U-haul small open trailer. I just never got around to reporting it.

Shame that the owner, Gregg Edwards, the ANC 1D Commissioner; supposedly, chooses to be so lax when it comes to applying the rules to himself.

when I first move to Mt P in 81 the building used to be a cooperative the GNU community. I know I am one of the people who got it reinspected in and article I wrote in the mail about how depending on who your assessor is in Mt P your could be 1/2 or twice the assessment of your next door neighbor, anyway the supposedly did a full building inspection and it is inquite disrepair, which doesn't explain the land value. I am not sure if anyone else besides Gregg lives there and he has been struggling with some serious health issues for at least 5 years. but the variance in assessments is not limited to that building. for years if the woman assessed your building it was about half market rate even if your identical next door neighbor is assessed at twice as much. go to the cfo site an put in a square (just the suare no lots) of a square you are familiar with and see the disparity in assessments.

That was part of the litigation in cleveland park. the assessment itself should not change due to any decutions credits or circuit breakers.
