This thread includes examples that demonstrate some of these concerns:

I thought that this was a good example because it does include your rebuttals, as well as corrections to the city paper article. I am sure that many of the issues that frustrate others are also a point of frustration for you, and I commend your ability to work hard for your constituents (as well as those of us outside of your SMD).
The very notion of trying to remove Mount Pleasant Street from the Mount Pleasant ANC shows little interest for the concern of the entire neighborhood, and I'm glad that Mount Pleasant did not suffer from such a bad decision this time.

In what sense, and wy, is the current ANC not functional? And what's meant by "the bastard child that gets left behind"?

That string on the Forum illustrates the very frustrating problem that I face, namely that people denounce the ANC as "dysfunctional", et cetera, not because we're not accomplishing anything, but because of some particular incident or incidents in the past, commonly distorted and misunderstood, and blown way out of proportion.
This usually comes down to people having a problem with Gregg. Perhaps this latest incident, the attempt to split Mount Pleasant in two, is an example. He's characterized by strong opinions and a forceful willingness to get things done. Welcome to life in District politics, high and low. Have others followed the recent altercations on the District Council? When strong-willed people of contrary opinions collide, sparks fly.
Have I mentioned that the chairman of this Ward One Redistricting Task Force, Alan Roth, threatened to call the police and have me removed from the meeting if I continued to "disrupt" the meeting? I, too, am characterized by strong opinions and a forceful willingness to get things done. This has antagonized some people, no doubt. That's the inevitable byproduct of getting things done in this environment.
Nothing substantial comes about without such a battle. Not in a neighborhood like ours, characterized by wide differences in ethnic backgrounds and financial classes.
This was the reason proffered for splitting Mount Pleasant in two: that would end the conflicts by separating the row-house-owning people from the apartment-renting folks. Well, that might put a stop to the arguments. But would it be a good thing to do?
