In the 1800 block of Hobart st, where the road curves down the hill, there are numerous cars parking illegally at all times but primarily in the evening. This creates a dangerous environment for drivers coming around the curve as sometimes they are unable to see due to large SUV's being parked there.

I saw a parking attendant on a segway go by today without actually ticketing these illegally parked vehicles. I know there's issues with ticketing regarding distance from intersections, but these seems like more like a safety concern to not block line of sight. Is there a reason these vehicles aren't getting ticketed?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

My understanding was that the MPD made an accommodation for Mt. Pleasant as a whole due to the lack of parking spaces. They came out and effectively said we wont ticket for the type of transgressions you raised, but I thought they limited their non-ticketing to late at night and early in the morning.

I'll admit, I am occasionally one of the illegal parkers - so I would definitely appreciate clarification. I've done it maybe 10-15 times without a ticket, so there must be something to it.

Are you the one with the silver SUV? I second that because of the curve this is not an area to ease parking restrictions. It's a little hairy coming around that bend with the suvs constantly parked there a good 4 or 5 car lengths beyond the no parking sign. A few of them treat the stretch as their personal reserved parking it seems. And if it is now legal then the sign should be moved so that everyone knows its legal. Maybe then some smaller cars will have a shot at parking there instead of the same three suvs that are aware of the loophole and impossible to see around.

I'm not the silver SUV.

And it's not "now legal." What I read (though probably on a post in this forum somewhere, so take it with a grain of salt) is that you will not be ticketed for this type of illegal parking "overnight." I think if a car is sitting in one of those spots in the middle of the afternoon, you may be fair game for a ticket, but who knows.

Seeing around the SUVs or any car parked there may not be ideal, but to me it's not been wildly dangerous either. It reminds me to drive the speed limit, too.
