I have lived in MTP for a few years now and I am impressed that there seems to be more police presence on Mount Pleasant Street. But what I don’t understand is why the police simply walk by and do nothing about the loitering outside of 7-11 or why they permit cars to Double Park and do illegal U-Turns. This would not be permitted in any other neighborhood of Washington. Why MTP? _________________ Charlie |

I believe it was said best when someone said that if you had a bunch of hipsters hanging out talking on a corner it would mean the neighborhood was "vibrant."
I walk past the 7/11 everyday and see most of the same men drinking their coffees and having conversations among one another. And despite the occasional cat calls my wife tells me about, I find it sort of comforting )(like they're some type of neighborhood watch group). And when all is said and done, I would rather have the current situation then a deserted, dark corner.
It's the folks I don't recognize, off by themselves, and are usually the one's doing the pan-handling, that bother me. I wish that as "payment" for their loitering they would police themselves and make sure this doesn't happen.
What worries me is what that corner is going to look like when the paint store eventual opens... |

| I agree with Charlie. I think it's gotten to the point where something needs to be done. I just came back from Mt Pleasant Street; 5 PM on a Sunday night. Still light out and many people on the street. Encountered a drunk man urinating in front of the library. No one said anything .. everyone acting as if it was nothing. They just stepped over his stream running across the sidewalk to the street. Personally I find nothing "comforting" about this. I called 311 and they said they could do nothing about it. |

| The fence next to the 7-11 is an open air men's room. I see men urinating there frequently when I'm on my way home from work at 6:30 or so on weekdays. No consequences. |
