The next informal monthly public meeting of ANC 1D will take place on Tuesday, August 3, at 7:00 pm, at La Casa Community Center, 3166 Mount Pleasant Street. The primary topic will be the idea of Mount Pleasant Street as a “Green Street”, as proposed by the Revitalization Strategy Draft Plan (see below). Other District plans with related consequences may be considered, e.g., Affordable Housing, Bicycles, Energy, Environment, Pedestrians, Housing, Mass Transit and Street Cars, Trees, Lighting. Any other subjects of concern to residents of Mount Pleasant may be brought up.

The Office of Planning Revitalization study recommended making Mount Pleasant Street a "green street", summarized as follows:

A Green Street can be identified by its use of several attributes of sustainable streetscape design that are inherently green such as: the amount of street tree coverage; improved pedestrian environment, which encourages walking; a reduction in the amount of impervious surface; and natural stormwater filtration systems. Green streetscapes are those that adhere to well established standards of sustainable design and practices.

These improvements would not only serve to enhance the overall appearance of Mt. Pleasant Street, but also to establish the corridor as a model for using eco-friendly development practices in conjunction with neighborhood commercial revitalization.

Attached, the details of the Revitalization recommendation. The August 3 meeting of the ANC invites a public discussion of this concept, and how it might be implemented. What, for example, would make for an "improved pedestrian environment"?

PostPosted: Tue Aug 03, 2010 12:08 pm    Post subject: Fiesta DC 2010 Reply with quote

The topic for this evening appears to be changing. We're concerned about Fiesta DC, set for September 26 here in Mount Pleasant. The Fiesta is under completely new management, which means that the people in charge don't have any "lessons learned" from previous Fiestas here. With the Fiesta just eight weeks away, there's not much time to come to understandings as to how the Fiesta is to be handled with tolerable disruption imposed on Mount Pleasant residents.

Fiesta DC management will be attending the informal ANC meeting this evening, 7 pm, La Casa Community Center.
