Group House Residents: Shovel.
3 group houses on my block, 3 icy sidewalks. All other houses shoveled out.
So get to it. |

I am really dissapointed to see how bad my neighboors are keeping with their responsability of clearing the snow in sidewalks and alleys and I do not know what I am supossed to do...
just take a look at the 1900-1950 block of Lamont St (between 19th and Waldbridge) and you will see...
the alley behind 19th is almost clear by now; compare it with the alley behind Lamont... it is a mess despite some well intentionated efforts...
I understand people care about their own retaining wall or cars but come on guys if we do not cooperate our alleys and sidewalks will remain impassable for weeks!!!!
let's take advantage of the sun and clean at least a passage so the snow can melt...
thanks

Pfeiffers sells a 10 pound bag of salt for $3.
For less than your daily coffee, you can melt that ice berg on your front sidewalk. |

Better yet buy a couple shovels from them - a snow shovel with a metal edge or a square point or general purpose shovel. Salt breaks down ice but it also damages plants, trees, brick, cement, wood, etc., and it's hard on footwear. And, at this point it's not going to do much for the icy blocks left where no one bothered shoveling. |

Two and a half weeks later....there are still several sidewalks on the south (even) side of Irving Street that have NEVER been shoveled. The overwhelming majority of Mt P'ers are great about this. But this is ridiculous. If you can't or won't shovel yourself:
pay someone else $25 to do it
ask a neighbor to help
post on this site
buy a flamethrower and melt the snow
...or maybe move to a warmer climate or to a suburb where they don't have sidewalks. Someone is going to slip and hurt themselves because a couple of really inconsiderate souls are incapable of watching out for their neighbors. Just sad. |
