Re: Keeping track of public properties
You would think there would be more activity and discussion concerning the loss of public properties to private individuals (aka, corporations/developers/investment groupers, etc). Fortunately a few people out there (not me) are doing something. Of course this selling off of public wealth to private wealth is not a local phenomenon.
Finally, Council Members Thomas and Barry have proposed Bill 17-0527, which is to actually LIST all the property owned by District residents and taxpayers, ---shine a light on these holdings, so to speak---- so nothing will be sneaking out the back door (like twenty-million dollars in property taxes!).
Think what is to be done with twenty-three public schools that are supposedly closing. The public should be interested in these properties, and a host of others. (You're going to be paying for garbage collection soon, on top of your increasing taxes, and more).
I pay attention to things and yet I have no idea what Mr. Graham thinks of all this. I cannot imagine any reason he would not support such a bill. Perhaps Mr. Graham could enlighten us of his intentions.
Why any publicly elected official would not be behind protecting the property rights of his or her own constituents seems beyond the pale of publicly-spirited reasoning.
It would be nice to know where Mr. Graham stands on this very important matter.
