| In my experience in Mt P, this sets a new record for time over target. Reminds me of the series of scenes at the end of Goodfellas, except I ain't driving around. |

So many police cars and officers on Newton near Bancroft, and a helicopter, but I can't find out what is happening.
My partner and daughter are out for a walk, and I'm trying to understand what's the smartest thing for them to do -- stay away right now or come home home. It's hard to make safe choices without any info.
Does anyone know a good source for information about real-time police activity of this level in our neighborhood? |

Dear Friends:
The details are sketchy at this time. MPD tells me that the Park Police pursued a stolen vehicle to the 1700 block of Park Rd. Shots were fired by the Park Police. We believe no one was injured. With the assistance of MPD, one and possibly two persons were apprehended. The stolen vehicle was not found.
This is all of the information I have at this time.
Bests,

Recovered Stolen Vehicle
On June 5, 2007, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a United States Park Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle which was confirmed stolen at Park Road and Hiatt Place, N.W. During the encounter the officer did fire one round with his service pistol. The vehicle fled the scene and shortly after two suspects were taken into custody in connection with the incident. The vehicle was located later in the area of 18th Street and Park Rd, N.W. The incident is under investigation.
Any person who may have witnessed this incident is encouraged to contact the United States Park Police Tip Line at (202) 610-8737. |

| Does anyone have any more information about what would lead the police to shoot their weapons while pursuing a stolen car through a busy residential neighborhood in the middle of the afternoon? It seems like only some good luck kept this from being a very bad situation. |

A similar question posted to WardOneDC
Councilmember Graham,
If this is the same incident, I've been told by several witnesses that this incident ocurred in front of Bell Multicultural High School with dozens of students present. If this in fact the same incident, while I understand the U.S. Park Police do not fall under your purview, but could you please find out for us when it is ever acceptable for law enforcement to fire shots in the presence of children...over a stolen vehicle!
Thanks,
Mindy Moretti

| If you recall the girl who plowed through the crowd of people this weekend, the MPD did not shoot at all because of the crowds of people. Instead, they laid down their motorcycles to stop the car. |
