The EWS Charter School, now on 16th street, is planning to move to Brookland in NE over the next year. In a Brookland ANC meeting, EWS School founder Linda Moore mentioned problems the school had with the Mount Pleasant ANC when it first moved to that area. Traffic was a challenge she specifically mentioned although her solutions weren't entirely clear.
Can anyone tell me about the history the EWS School has had with the Mount Pleasant community? I'm a Brooklander and have been put off by the lack of information shared with our community and am very worried about the traffic impact. It would be helpful to know what the school's past experiences with ANCs have been.
Thank you! |

The traffic arrangement for parents to collect their children from the school is rather awkward, and we've struggled with finding a better way to handle that problem. This is a common issue with charter schools, and other schools as well (e.g., Bancroft Elementary). Parents arrive in droves at school-closing time, and want to stop in the street and await their children. Our busy streets aren't designed to cope with that problem.
The school has done its best to mitigate the problem. "The ANC" has no complaint with the school.
